Sizing & Fit
What size should I order?
Order your usual US size. If you wear a US 10 in Nike, Adidas or Asics, order a US 10 here. We run in these shoes ourselves and fit runners in them every week — Li-Ning sizing comes out the same as the major Western brands once you're looking at the right number.
You may have read elsewhere that you should go half a size up in Chinese shoes. That advice mostly comes from people converting from the wrong column on the chart. We fit-tested it, and our guidance is simple: your normal US size is the right starting point.
How do I make sure I get the right size first time?
Measure your foot in centimetres. It's the single most reliable way to size any running shoe, and Chinese brands build their size charts directly around foot length.
- In the evening (feet swell during the day), stand on a piece of paper in the socks you run in.
- Mark your heel and your longest toe, then measure the distance in cm.
- Measure both feet and use the longer one.
- Match that number to the CM column in the size chart on the product page.
If your foot length falls between two sizes, take the larger one for training shoes and the snugger one for race day.
Do Chinese running shoes run narrow?
Not especially. Li-Ning's standard last is comparable to a Nike or Asics regular width. If you're a wide foot (2E+) who normally buys wide-specific models from Brooks or New Balance, get in touch before ordering and we'll tell you honestly whether the model you're looking at will work for you.
What's the size conversion?
Every product page carries the full conversion chart (US / UK / EU / CM) taken directly from the supplier's official size guide. When in doubt, trust the CM column over the US column as it's your actual foot, not a label.
What if the size is still wrong?
We'll exchange it. See Ordering From Us below — sizing exchanges are the most common thing we handle and we've set the process up to be painless.
New to Chinese Running Shoes?
Are Chinese running shoes actually any good?
Yes — and this isn't a fringe opinion anymore. Chinese brands like Li-Ning, Anta, 361°, Xtep and Qiaodan dominate marathon expos and city running in China, and their top racing shoes use the same core technology as Western super shoes: PEBAX-based foams, carbon plates, aggressive rocker geometries. Independent reviewers and runners increasingly rate them as comparable to Nike and Adidas offerings. The main reason you haven't tried them is distribution, not quality.
Why haven't I heard of Li-Ning?
Li-Ning was founded in 1989 by Li Ning, one of China's greatest Olympic gymnasts (three gold medals at the 1984 Los Angeles Games). It's a sportswear giant in Asia — huge in basketball and badminton — but its running range has only recently started reaching Australia, mostly through a small number of local distributors. We're here because we think Australian marathoners deserve direct access to it.
Why are they cheaper than Nike or Adidas?
Lower prices come from lower marketing spend, enormous manufacturing scale and tight domestic supply chains — not from cutting corners on materials. A carbon-plated super shoe from a Western brand typically retails for $300–$400 while Chinese equivalents commonly come in 20–40% cheaper with comparable tech.
Are these shoes genuine?
Yes. Every pair we sell is sourced through official brand channels. This matters: marketplaces like AliExpress are fine for genuine Chinese brands bought from official stores, but the "Nike super shoes for $100" listings on those platforms are counterfeits with hollow EVA shells that look ok and run terribly. We exist so you never have to play that guessing game. Every Li-Ning shoe we sell can be checked as genuine online. Drop us a message if you have any questions.
Can I race in them? Are they legal for competition?
Yes. Li-Ning's racing shoes are built to comply with World Athletics footwear regulations and are worn in sanctioned marathons across Asia. Your PB will count.
How do they feel compared to what I'm running in now?
If you're coming from a traditional trainer, in general a Chinese super shoe will feel more aggressive. The carbon plate and rocker propel you forward with each stride in a way that takes a run or two to get used to if you haven't run in aggressive shoes before. If you're coming from a Nike Vaporfly or Adidas Adios Pro, you'll find the sensation familiar. Note that not all the shoes are aggressive, so we include western shoe comparisons to help guide you.
Each product page describes the ride in plain language, and if you're unsure, message us! This is the conversation we love to have with our customers.
How long will they last?
Comparable to Western equivalents.... often better! One of our customers has put 1000km of marathon block training into his Li-Ning Red Hare 9 Ultras and they are still going strong.
Ordering From Us
How long does delivery take?
- In stock: dispatched from Brisbane via AusPost, typically 2–4 business days.
- Sizes marked as incoming/preorder: around 2-3 weeks - we state this plainly on the product page rather than surprising you after checkout.
Will I get hit with customs or import fees?
No. Our stock is already in Australia and our prices include GST. The price you see is the price you pay — no duties, no surprise fees at the border, no three-week wait from overseas.
What's the returns and exchange policy?
- Size exchanges: contact us within 28 days, shoes unworn outdoors, and we'll swap sizes. Change-of-mind returns are accepted on the same basis; return postage is at your cost, as stated upfront in line with Australian Consumer Law.
- Faulty goods: if something's genuinely wrong with the shoe, that's on us — full repair, replacement or refund under ACL. Contact us first and we'll sort it.
Do you offer Afterpay?
Yes — Afterpay is available at checkout, along with all the usual payment methods.
Where are you based?
Sandgate, on Brisbane's northside. Bramble Bay Athletic is run by a local marathoner, not an overseas warehouse. The stock is here, the person answering your message is here, and you'll probably see us at a Brisbane parkrun or a Bush Turkey Track Club session.
Can I try before I buy?
We're online-first, but if you're local to Brisbane's northside, reach out! We're happy to arrange a fitting where we can. Watch this space as we grow.
Still not sure?
Message us through the chat. Sizing questions, "is this shoe right for my marathon build", "how does it compare to my current shoe" - we answer all of it, usually within a few hours Brisbane time.
